If it ever comes out on DVD it will more likely than not be from the Criterion Collection - http://www.criterion.com/asp/ - so PRAY that they decide to release it! Otherwise, I would try looking into good alternative theatres in your area that screen the old classic films (the neorealists, new-wave directors, etc) You might even be able to suggest Lo Straniero to them. The 35mm print definitely is floating around out there somewhere, so it's just a matter of getting a hold of it. Hope that gives you some ideas!
